  • Big Names scheduled to attend Greater Cleveland Sports Awards

    CLEVELAND (Jan. 26, 2016) – Thursday’s 16th Annual Greater Cleveland Sports Awards will honor the best and brightest in Cleveland sports and feature dozens of Cleveland sports celebrities and personalities. Heisman Trophy winner and Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard will emcee the event at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. The Sports Awards is the primary annual fundraiser for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

    Scheduled to attend the event are big names from across Cleveland sports, including Jimmy Haslam, Don King, Terry Francona, Jim Brown, Cory Snyder, Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis, Josh Cribbs, David Griffin and dozens of sports personalities and former professional athletes.

    Cleveland sports broadcaster Jim Donovan will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a member of the Cleveland sports community that has dedicated their career to Northeast Ohio. Past recipients include Tom Hamilton, Doug Dieken, Bernie Kosar and Austin Carr.

    The Cleveland Clinic Courage Award will be presented to Westlake teenager Colin Teets. Teets suffered a debilitating brain injury 8 years ago while playing hockey. After numerous surgeries, having to be revived twice, and years of rehabilitation to learn basic motor functions, Colin returned to the ice last winter as a member of the Westlake High School varsity hockey team. He would go on to score a goal during a game at Quicken Loans Arena.

    A special video will reveal the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland Best Moment in Cleveland Sports at the event.

    The event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. cocktail reception. The awards show will begin at 7:45 p.m.
