25 YEARS OF CLEVELAND SPORTS

The 25th Greater Cleveland Sports Awards presented by Medical Mutual and Ancora will take place on Feb. 6, 2025. As we prepare for the biggest night in Cleveland sports, join us as we highlight the best moments in CLE sports history over the past 25 years.

Each week, we will be sharing some of the most exciting and legendary sports accomplishments in Cleveland. From 2000 to 2024, high school to professional, and more, there’s much to celebrate. Comment on our social media post on Facebook, Instagram, and X on what we should highlight. Then tune in as we reminisce on our favorite successes and look forward to our silver jubilee!

2000: Then Cleveland Indians, now Cleveland Guardians, batted off their 100th franchise season.

2001: Don’t call it a comeback! On Aug. 5, the Cleveland Indians, now Cleveland Guardians, tied the record for the largest comeback in MLB history.

2002: Cleveland Browns first playoff appearance since returning after the franchise departed in 1995.

2003: Cleveland Cavaliers draft LeBron James with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft.

2004: Timothy Mack Sets Olympics Record and Wins Gold.

2005: Bob Feller Lifetime Achievement Recipient.

2006: Troy Smith Wins Heisman and Collegiate AOTY at 7th Greater Cleveland Sports Awards.

2007: Cleveland hosted the NCAA Women’s Final Four for the first time.

2007: LeBron James Scores Cavs Last 25 Points in Game 5 of ECF and Cavs Clinch First NBA Finals in Game 6.

2008: Cleveland State University Women's Basketball Wins Their First Horizon League Tournament.

2009: LeBron James' Game-Winning Three Pointer vs. Orlando Magic.

2010: Peyton Hillis vs. New England Patriots.

2011: Joe Tait's Farewell Season.

2012: Mentor vs. St. Ignatius OSHAA DI Playoff Game.

2013: 2013 National Senior Games.

2013: Jason Giambi's Walk-Off Home Run vs. Chicago White Sox.

2014: 2014 Gay Games.

2014: LeBron James Returns to Cleveland.

2015: Cleveland Cavaliers Head To The NBA Finals.

2016: Cleveland Cavaliers Win NBA Finals.

2016: Cleveland Indians, now Cleveland Guardians, Clinch World Series.

2016: Lake Erie Monsters, now Cleveland Monsters, Win Calder Cup.

2016: Stipe Miocic Wins UFC Heavyweight Championship.

2017: Cleveland Indians, now Cleveland Guardians, Breaks AL Record for Longest Winning Streak.
