CLEVELAND Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (GCSC) will host its third annual Sunset Sprint 5K/10K presented by The Illuminating Company on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at Cleveland Metroparks Edgewater Park. Based on current COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, both live and virtual 5K or 10K options are available.

For live participants, this chip-timed race features the unique opportunity to run or walk at sunset along Cleveland’s scenic shore of Lake Erie. New in 2020, a 10K race option will be added for participants as part of the 2020 Hermes Road Race Series. A video preview of the 5K and 10K routes are available online.

“We’re excited to again host our Sunset Sprint 5K/10K race. Our team, through the support of our partners at Hermes Road Racing and Cleveland Metroparks, have been steadfast in their commitment to provide a safe and fun atmosphere for this yearly fundraiser,” said David Gilbert, President & CEO of Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. “This event is a great opportunity for our non-profit to engage with the local community.”

The live race route will run along the all-purpose trail at Edgewater Park’s lower and upper areas as well as extend onto the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway for the 10K option.

Virtual participants may complete their race anytime between Oct. 1 – 16, 2020 via their own 5K or 10K route as well as any of the suggested race routes which feature Cleveland script signs. Participants are encouraged to “share their sunset” with a run selfie posted to social media using hashtags #racethesunset and #sunsetsprint.

Virtual results may be submitted to Hermes Road Racing by Oct. 16, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. EST in order to be placed on the results page.

Online registration for both the live and virtual races is now available. Prices range from $30-$35 for adults and $20-$25 for children, ages 14 & under. There will be no race day registration.

Registration for the first 300 participants will receive a race t-shirt, pint glass, official race bib, reusable event bag courtesy of The Shamrock Companies, reusable water bottle courtesy of Cleveland Water and Honey Hut ice cream voucher. Live participants will also receive chip-timed results, gear check courtesy of The Shamrock Companies and pre-packaged post-race refreshments.

Packet pick up for live participants will take place at the following locations:

Virtual participants will receive their race items via mail by Oct. 1, 2020, if registered before Sept. 23, 2020.

Live participants will be eligible for awards in the top three male and female overall finishers and the top three finishers in each age group: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+. There will be no on-site awards ceremony.

Award winners will have the opportunity to pick up their medals at the following locations:

Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to participate. No strollers will be allowed on the course due to limited space. Sunset Sprint 5K/10K and Edgewater Park are dog friendly.

All proceeds from the Sunset Sprint 5K/10K will benefit local nonprofit, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.
