SPECIAL OLYMPICS USA GAMES 2030 CLEVELAND BID SUBMITTED; VOLUNTEER PLEDGES STILL NEEDED

CLEVELAND – Oct. 16, 2024 – Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is thrilled to announce the bid submission for the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games. The bid was submitted on Oct. 1 in partnership with Special Olympics Ohio, Destination Cleveland and many more.

We are grateful for the overwhelming support we've received from communities across Ohio and Clevelanders alike. Special Olympics USA Games are hosted every four years in major cities that welcome more than 5,500 athletes and coaches from all 50 states and the Caribbean, as well as 100,000 family members and attendees. The 8-day event includes 16+ sports and daily programs focused on athlete and family wellness. Estimated to bring $70M+ to the local economy, the impact and legacy of the event would be immeasurable.

Cleveland’s bid for the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games included over 10,700 signatures from Ohioans who pledged their support for Cleveland to host, volunteer, attend ceremonies or cheer on the athletes as spectators. Although the bid has been submitted, 4,500 volunteer pledges are still needed. The community can help reach this goal by Dec. 1 and show that Cleveland is ready to host this inclusive event.

The bid process provides a chance to showcase Northeast Ohio as the premier destination for inclusion with an unrivaled history of hosting world class events and a relentless commitment to longstanding legacy. Cleveland 2030 Host Committee spans across the State of Ohio and includes Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, Destination Cleveland, Special Olympics Ohio, City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, State of Ohio, congressional leadership, corporate leadership, universities, hospital systems, GCRTA, and many other relevant stakeholders to assure a cohesive host partnership indicative of how our community pulls together to make big things happen.

A site visit will take place in early February, which will include some community involvement. In the meantime, the public is asked to pledge to volunteer for the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games in Cleveland at SpecialOlympicsCleveland.com.
