USA TRACK & FIELD (USATF) MASTERS OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS JULY 16-19, 2026

1,719 athletes aged 25-94 years old, including six retired Olympians, 202 athletes from Ohio, 12 athletes from cities near Geneva in a total of 4,264 events.

Geneva, Ohio – July 7, 2026 –The 2026 USATF Masters Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held Thursday through Sunday, July 16-19, 2026, at SPIRE Academy with 1719 entries 25-94 years old, featuring 30 world indoor or outdoor record holders, 79 American indoor or outdoor record holders, six Olympic athletes, 202 athletes from Ohio, 12 athletes from cities near Geneva, and athletes from 53 states --- making this the largest entry list of masters track and field competitors at any USATF national championship ever. The event is hosted by SPIRE Academy and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

Events start at 8:00 am each day and run through 6:30 pm on Thursday and Friday, 7:30 pm on Saturday, and 4:30 pm on Sunday. Media are welcome. There is no admission charge for spectators in the 10,000-seat arena.

Every event features the country's best adult athletes, but the toughest competition is in the M30-34 age group 100 meters, where six athletes with best times under 12 seconds will battle to the finish line:

Six Olympic athletes who have come out of retirement to compete:

• James Archibald Barrineau, Jr. (born June 25, 1955, in Fort Gordon, Georgia) is an American high jumper. He represented the USA in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where he finished a disappointing eleventh place in the final, jumping 2.14m. Earlier in the qualifying round, he had already jumped 2.16m and he jumped 2.25m a month earlier in qualifying at the Olympic Trials in finishing behind Dwight Stones and the surprise jumping of Bill Jankunis. In the 1980 Olympic Trials, Barrineau, representing the United States Army beat Stones, but neither qualified for the team that did not go to the Olympics due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott. In the 1984 trials, Stones set the American masters record, while Barrineau finished a non-qualifying eighth. Barrineau also competed for the U.S. team at the 1983 Pan American Games.

• Joetta Clark Diggs (née Clark, born August 1, 1962, in East Orange, New Jersey) is a retired Olympic American track and field champion, specializing in middle distance running. She ran for more than 28 consecutive years never missing an indoor or outdoor season, with her races being in the 800m and 1500m. A 4-time Olympian in 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000, she competed in every outdoor USA Championships or Olympic trials between 1979 and 2000, winning five outdoor championships. Indoors, she was in the national championship race in 18 of the last 19 years, winning seven times. Clark Diggs was ranked in the top 10 in the world since 1991. Moreover, in 1998 at age 36, she was ranked number four in the world. This was her best ranking out of six such appearances. Coached by Terry Crawford at the University of Tennessee, Clark Diggs left Knoxville with nine collegiate titles (including relays) and a degree in public relations. Clark Diggs was coached by her brother, J.J. Clark, who is the former women's coach at the University of Tennessee. J.J. also coached two other 800m runners: his wife, Jearl Miles Clark, and his younger sister, Hazel Clark. Hazel, Jearl and Joetta were all ranked #1 in America at one point in time. The Clark Team is known as ""The First Family of Track & Field"" because of their 800m dominance. At the 2000 Olympic Trials the family pulled off a remarkable sweep of the three Olympic qualifying positions with Hazel winning, Jearl second and Joetta making her final Olympic team at age 38 in third. She was the second oldest female Olympic track team member that year and the fifth oldest of all time. She was the team captain in 2000. She is the oldest ever to qualify in a track running event."

• Thomas Robert Dooley (born December 9, 1945, in San Francisco, California) is an American race walker who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics (17th in 20km race walk) and in the 1972 Summer Olympics (15th in 20km race walk).

• Howard Andrew Lindsay (born August 14, 1963, in Jamaica) is an Antiguan and Barbudan Runner. He competed as a 4x400m runner at the 1984, 1988 and 1996 Olympic Games. He also competed in the 4x100m relay and 200m at the 1988 Olympics. His personal best is 45.7 seconds for the 400m. He currently coaches middle school athletes at United Nations International School (UNIS) in Manhattan, New York, and he runs in masters competitions such as the World Masters Athletics Championships.

• Chaunté Lowe (née Howard; born January 12, 1984) is an American athlete who competes in the high jump. A four-time Olympian (2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016), she is the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, the 2005 World Championship silver medalist and the 2012 World Indoor gold medalist. She initially finished sixth in the 2008 Olympic high jump final but was promoted to the bronze medal in 2016 after three competitors were disqualified for doping. She is the American record holder in the women's high jump with an outdoor clearance of 2.05 m in 2010 and holds the indoor record with a clearance of 2.02 m in 2012. In 2019, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Despite the diagnosis, she continued to train through surgeries and chemotherapy to stay competitive for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. With the 2020 Olympics postponed, she maintained her training determined to continue to use her voice to bring awareness to breast cancer.

• Michelle Rohl (born November 12, 1965, in Madison, Wisconsin) is a female track and field athlete from the United States who competed in race walking. She represented her native country at three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992. A five-time USA Indoor Champion ('95, '96, '98, '00, and '01) and a four-time U.S. outdoor 20km champion ('99–'01, and '03), she won a silver and a bronze medal at the Pan American Games (1995 and 1999). Turning to shorter distances, she now holds 8 American track & field records.

• Kelly Jeromy Willie (born September 7, 1982) is an American former track and field athlete who specialized in the 400-meter dash. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he attended Sterling High School and competed in track while there. Willie attended Louisiana State University and ran for their LSU Tigers team, being a three-time NCAA champion in the relay and the 400 m runner-up in 2004. He ran for the Gold-Medal winning American 4×400-meter relay team at the 2004 Olympics.

Among the most interesting athletes to watch is Willie Spruill.

In 2017, Willie Spruill needed a cane to walk. He was in the thick of deep physical and emotional struggle after years of dealing with chronic pain from injuries he sustained while serving in the U.S. Army. Today, Willie is National Senior Games Track & Field medalist with a new purpose. At Geneva, now fully recovered, he competes in four events.
