The Last Out at CIFF 45

The Last Out (2020), the story of three Cuban baseball players dreams of playing in the Major Leagues, is a must-see documentary being screened at the 45th annual Cleveland International Film Fest (CIFF) on April 7-20, 2021 online.

Due to the strained relationship between the United States and Cuba, Cuban baseball players must establish a residence elsewhere in order to be recruited by the Major Leagues. This film follows Happy, Carlos and Baró, three promising players, as they must leave from their homes in Cuba to train in Costa Rica in hopes of playing professional baseball and providing for their families back home.

As time goes on, each player must make a decision to stay the course with the program or risk their lives and navigate their own path to the U.S. A documentary much larger than baseball, THE LAST OUT tells the human story of courage, sacrifice and commitment to family and self to seek a better way of life.

Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is a proud community partner of CIFF 45 for The Last Out. The film is presented in part of the Velocity programming series leading up to the Cleveland Power of Sport Summit, held in conjunction with the 2021 NFL Draft, and highlights diversity and inclusion issues in the lives of athletes.
